  • Themed Item (a.k.a. comment) Pages!

Finally, everyone’s comment pages will match their new themed pages! We put a lot of work into this one, but I think we finally have it nailed down. I hope everyone enjoys this feature, and will make themes a more attractive option. If your new item page doesn’t look quite right, try resaving your theme, and if that doesn’t work, post to the theme forums: http://help.xanga.com/themes/. Now get to work making those amazing looking sites!

P.S. Feel free to post links to your theme sites in the comments.

  • My Site Changes

Some of you may have noticed that my site looks different. If you didn’t, then look a little closer at some of the modules scattered around. This is part of a new system we have been working on here at Xanga, and we will be releasing more info about it in the coming weeks.

  • Michigan Pride

So to finally counter the UofI flag, Vikas and I bought a University of Michigan flag to hang above our desks. Let the battles begin!

  • University of Illinois Pride?

So some of the UofI alumni here at the office decided to hang a UofI flag on one of the walls.

Vikas and I are from the University of Michigan, so we felt kind of left out with this flag hanging in plain site of our desks. We are in the process of looking for a UofM flag, bigger obviously, to hang somewhere in the office. Then, a sign from a higher power.

Out of nowhere, the flag fell. Chalk one up for UofM? You decide.

  • Happenings

I have to say a lot has been going on. Work has been very busy, and I’ve been trying my best to help plan my wedding from here in New York. For those of you who don’t know, I’m engaged. My fiance lives in Michigan, which is where our wedding will be, and she’s been hard at work trying to plan the big party. I do what I can, and try to catch flights to Michigan on weekends to help out. The wedding is in September of 2007, so there is a bit of time before the knot is officially tied.

A couple weeks ago, I joined the Xanga recruiting team at the job fair in Michigan. We interviewed tons of great candidates, and I can’t wait to spend some time with the lucky few we fly out for another round of interviews. It looks like we might be growing a good bit in the next year, which is great for our users.

Speaking of Xanga, we have been working on some REALLY cool stuff lately. I’ll keep my mouth shut, and won’t spoil the surprise, but some of the things we’ve been producing in the office have been amazing. We seem to be moving in a really good direction, and hopefully it will all pay off by attracting more users. For all you users who have friends not using Xanga, do them a favor and introduce them to this amazing site, and community. They’ll thank you for it.

  • Xanga Uploader Update: Albums and System Tray Support

Today we have released an update to the Xanga Uploader. This update includes support for Albums, as well as a system tray icon so you can minimize the application when you’re not using it.

For those of you with the Xanga Uploader already installed, the application should update itself. I’ve included links below for those that need to install the application for the first time.

The comments everyone left on my first launch post were great. People were either very pleased with our attempt to ease their photo uploading lives, or upset we didn’t include support for their operating system. To give everyone hope for support of their favorite platform, I will say this: if there is a large enough demand for it, the chances are much greater that it will happen. So don’t be shy and make sure you make your requests. Every one of them is tallied.

  • Xanga Uploader Beta Test

Today we are beta testing the Xanga Uploader

With the addition of the many new photo features on Xanga, we decided it was time to make it easier for users to sync their collection of photos to their Xanga site. Enter Xanga Uploader, an installable desktop application that allows you to drag and drop photos, edit attributes such as title and tags, and with the click of a button, upload those photos to your Xanga Photo Manager. You’ll find Xanga Uploader works great for those situations when you want to drop photos from your latest vacation or party into Xanga.

Xanga Uploader is currently beta software. To make sure our software is top quality, we need your help in testing, and quality feedback. Feel free to post any bugs, problems, or just general ideas to http://help.xanga.com/contact/pictures.htm.

The Xanga Uploader requires Windows 2000 or Windows XP. If you would like Xanga Uploader for an operating system we currently don’t support, don’t be shy. Make sure you give us feedback so we can best serve you.

  • UPnP Port Works

For the past couple of months, a program called UPnP Port Works has been in development by a programmer who goes by the name `JeNsEn. He contacted me interested in the LibNAT library I wrote. He has put that code to good use, developing the UPnP Port Works program. Basically, this program is a command line utility that can be used to manage all your ports on any UPnP enabled router. It is very cool, and helpful to those managing networks behind these brand of routers. `JeNsEn has done an amazing job extending LibNAT, and testing it on a large number of routers, so I send my thanks to him in this post. Here is a link to his site:

Also, stay tuned to my blog later today. I have a big announcement coming :)
